Recent Hardwood Floor Work
This couple was an absolute joy to work with (smiles when we started and hugs when we left), she threatened to adopt my installers. They are parents to one of my customers, and grandparents to another.
Their primary concern was dust and a high traffic hall that gets visibly warn down. This job presented other challenges as well, they have a hardwood natural finish white oak floor on the first floor, sanding and finishing was not an option as dust was one of the primary concerns, and there were stairs that already had a wood treatment on the side (difficult to address without cutting and doing major work to the bannister poles). The first three issues (dust traffic and the existing floor) were addressed by some research finally locating a natural color pre-finished white oak. Shaw had the perfect match, the prefinished product mint minimizing the dust, and a UV cured aluminum oxide/urethane finish mint that it will put up with a beating if necessary (this finish is 20-50 times harder than what we can apply on site). Last was the stairs, we used a 3/4" solid tread (single piece solution to a wood stair)and the existing edge treatment was addressed by some fancy saw work and an installer who refuses to leave until he would be happy living on the floor he is working on.
In the end as I said she threatened to adopt my crew, she then gave me a hug with the check. I want to tell anyone who will listen as sweet and nice as these people were to my installers, they could have asked them to hang wood in midair, and they would have tried for them. As to a hug with my check, well there is no better feeling than a job done well enough to earn one.
Recent Commercial Floor Work
The commercial floor was installed at a Houston based carbon black company. The key concern here was the carbon black being tracked in to this area by the employees. We addressed this by making the bulk of the floor a black VCT tile. So it didn't look like a cave we broke this up with a light colored border, as well as several of the same color through the body of the floor. This will now not only be a floor that is easy to clean, but when it is dirty from the product you will be less likely to see it.
Recent Carpet Work
The stair runner is a custom runner installed over wood steps. The customer's key concern was the they were getting older and the wood stairs were easy to slip on. The carpet provides not only a high class look, but also a surface that is not as slippery as the wood for both people and animals.
